Foot reflexology is a specialized massage technique using targeted finger, thumb, palm, and kneading movements along reflex points on the feet, ankles, calves, and shins. This ancient healing art traces back thousands of years to civilizations in Egypt, India, and China. In China, reflexology—known as “zone therapy”—has been practiced for over 3,000 years as a method to promote wellness and balance.
These reflex points correspond to different organs, systems, and glands throughout the body. By stimulating them, reflexology encourages healing, detoxification, and restores harmony. In India, this practice aligns with Ayurveda, the “science of life,” where reflexology is mentioned in ancient texts dating back to 3000 BC for treating ailments like headaches and constipation. Today, reflexology is widely used for anxiety, depression, and overall wellness.
Your session begins with gentle body compressions and rocking while you are draped with a weighted blanket to promote grounding and releasing surface tension held in your muscles unknowingly. Tuning forks, a vibrational medicine tool, deliver gentle vibrations to specific acupressure points or energy meridians, signaling your body it’s safe to fully surrender. Applied to specific reflex points on your feet and in longer sessions acupressure points on the head, chest, knees and feet are incorporated.
Foot reflexology is performed without oils, allowing deep connection to the body’s natural energy. During the session clients drift in and out of awareness feeling like they are floating. The reflexology sequence is powerful for detoxifying your organs systems and glands. Completing your session with a supportive conversation about where imbalances lie and what next steps to take to bring harmony back to the body.
Throughout, you’ll be guided in a visualization meditation that takes you in and out of deep peaceful states— whether you are using reflexology intentionally to heal your body or just trying something new you can expect to leave feeling like you have new feet, feeling light, cloud-like and completely relaxed.
